We have organised coaching and mix-in sessions which are supervised by the Club coaches and senior members, who take care to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to play and that no-one is left out. In this way new members quickly make new friends, and feel at home at the club. You may be surprised to see quite a few of your friends who are members already. These sessions are described below. The size of the junior section fluctuates between 80 and 120 members.
The Junior Subscription includes six weeks of coaching at one hour per week. These sessions normally start after the beginning of the Summer Season in April. Junior members are asked to state a preference for Saturday mornings or weekday afternoons after school. Coaching by professional coaches is in squads, ranging from short tennis (with soft balls and light raquets) to Bronze, Silver and Gold Squads. Progress from one squad to the next one up is conditional upon achieving the the next higher standard of play.
In the winter and spring terms Group Coaching is available at a fee. Those who take advantage of these sessions may expect to move more rapidly from one squad to the next - "the "Fast Track". The Club takes a pro-active role in helping Junior Members to improve their standard of play and generally to enjoy the game of tennis.
Those Juniors who reach the required standard may be selected for the Team Squad. This gives you the opportunity to play in matches to a good standard and to meet members of other clubs. you may also be invited to join in the Senior Tournaments and social play and also in the Senior Team match practice. Some of our Juniors play for the senior teams.
You are allowed to play at times when the courts are not used by the senior members. however a great deal more flexibility is available for the better junior players, without reference to their age, although mixing in with seniors is unlikely to take place before the age of 11 or 12. This is described in the paragraph above.
